CALORIE DEFICIT

When it comes to fat loss quality of food doesn’t matter. Fat loss is mainly focused around quantity of food.

When it comes to your health, the quality of food you choose to consume is crucial.

When you’re in a calorie deficit hunger can become an issue. You may be hungry throughout the day and this is because you are consuming less calories. Choice of food, however, can help with that issue.

A cheeseburger from McDonald’s has roughly 302 calories. If you decide to purchase a large cheeseburger meal (because let’s be real 1 cheeseburger won’t fill you up, it certainly doesn’t fill me up, but that’s not the point), you’re looking at 892 calories. .

That large cheeseburger meal you just consumed won’t keep you full for long and 9 times out of 10 it will make you feel sluggish and even sick in the stomach (for some people). If you were to consume 210g of lean beef mince, 30g of avocado, 200g of blueberries and 200g of strawberries you’re looking at 496 calories. I know this because this is one of my meals I have throughout my day.

That is more food consumed in one sitting, yet it is 396 calories less. The choice of beef, avocado and berries will keep you fuller for longer due to the foods chosen being more nutrient dense and therefore satiety levels (satisfied feeling) are much higher.

Healthier foods naturally help you feel better throughout the day.

My point is this, food quality might not play a major role in fat loss, but it can certainly help when it comes to feeling better when being in a calorie deficit. It also helps keep satiety levels high when being in a calorie deficit, and provide you with more energy throughout the day so you’re not hungry all day! .

I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with enjoying yourself with foods that aren’t ‘healthy’, but like the 80/20 rule, maintain 80% of your week with clean, high quality food and enjoy the remaining 20% to your liking.
