The Brain Part 11 SLEEP DEPRIVATION PART 4

With phrases like “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” emerging and a constant focus on productivity above all else - the amount of time that people are spending in bed is at an all time low.

With many people getting under 6 hours of sleep – an amount shown to be severely detrimental to healthy brain function – the question is… how many hours is enough?

According to research conducted by the National Sleep Foundation the minimum amount of sleep needed by age is;

0-3 Month Old: 14 – 17 hours

4-11 Months Old: 12 – 15 hours

1-2 Years Old: 11 – 14 hours

3-5 Years Old: 10-13 hours

6-13 Years Old: 9-11 hours

14 – 17 Years Old: 8-10 hours

18 – 64 Years Old: 7-9 hours

65 Years Old and older: 7-8 hours
