The Brain - Part 15 Alcohol – Part 2

Alcohol affects neurotransmitters in the brain which communicate between different part of the brain.

- Cerebral Cortex: this can cause confusion and the lowering of inhibitions

- Cerebellum: Movement and balance are affected leading to a greater likelihood of falling and or slurred speech.

- The hypothalamus and the amygdala: human reasoning is gone and it is much harder to control/ regulate emotions.

- The brain stem: For those who keep drinking past this point it is very dangerous. This is when sleep can be induced, seizures and or irregular breathing. Fortunately most people don’t make it this far as this can be either fatal or lead to permanent brain injury.
